Robinson Chapel, Muskegon Central United Methodist Church

Central United Methodist Church
1011 2nd Street
Muskegon, MI, 49440

Description

This is a Lauck Organ, Opus 29, installed in the Robinson Chapel of Central United methodist church.  The organ was commissioned as a gift for this space, and design considerations was given to providing an organ that did not overwhelm the small space and low ceilings of this chapel.  The organ has 6 ranks of pipes, including a Principal and Spitzflute  on the Great, and a Gedeckt, Viola,  Celeste rank, and Trumpet on the Swell.  The pipes are of narrow scale, with the Great Ranks exposed above the console on the left side and in front of the swell chamber on the right side. The console is fixed at the left side, and controls the pipes through and electro-pneumatic action. Drawknob stops are in horizontal rows on curved, stepped stop jambs to either side of the keyboards.  A combination action and Crescendo pedal are included.

Note that the Mutations and Mixtures are created by selectively keying pipes from the existing ranks, and do not have their own pipes.

History

This organ was constructed for the church in 1991,  a Gift in memory of Louise Arnold by George Arnold.  The organ replaced an earlier electronic instrument.

Jim Lauck of Lauck Pipe organs in Otsego, Michigan (Kalamazoo area) has been building and restoring pipe organs since 1974. He and his firm are well known in southwest Michigan, as he has provided rebuild or improvements such as solid state electronic pipe controls and combination actions to many churches in our area.
